Why "IceBurial"?
The name IceBurial began as a question: what comes after cremation and conventional burial? "Ice burial" itself is not a scientifically established or commercially available method of body disposition today — we say this plainly and repeatedly across the site, because intellectual honesty matters more to us than a catchy name. We chose the name because it captures the spirit of the site: an exploration of end-of-life technologies that feel like they belong to the future, some of which are already here.
What we cover
We divide everything we publish into three honest categories, and we label content accordingly throughout the site:
- Established methods — practices in active, regulated use today, such as green burial, traditional burial, and flame cremation.
- Emerging technologies — methods that are legal in a growing number of jurisdictions and backed by peer-reviewed science, such as natural organic reduction and alkaline hydrolysis.
- Experimental concepts — ideas that are theoretical, unproven, or confined to research and advocacy stages, such as cryonics and speculative future burial concepts.

Every article on IceBurial is written to be factually accurate, clearly sourced in spirit (even where we don't attach formal citations), and free of unsupported scientific claims. When we discuss laws or regulations — which vary enormously by country, state, and even county — we remind readers to verify current rules with a local authority or licensed professional rather than presenting anything as universal legal fact.
